This month of Ramadan, I introduced a special tradition with my students in grades 1 and 2. Each morning, we would begin our day with the recitation of the Quran, setting a peaceful and spiritual mood for our time together. Additionally, we introduced an activity where one of the students each day would pick a sheet of paper from the gift jar and share what they were planning to do during the day. This activity promoted mindfulness, gratitude, and encouraged my students to set positive intentions for their day. Throughout the month we also continued to introduce other activities. On some days, we would do a short trivia game together. Each student would pick out a card containing a question and then ask their group members. Furthermore, I was delighted to witness some of our students leading the class in the Quran reading session, fostering a sense of unity and reverence among their peers. We also used this opportunity to delve into some of the stories of the Quran, such as the story of Prophet Saleh (a).
I believe this practice not only enhanced my students’ connection to their faith but also fostered a sense of community and kindness within our classroom.
