Exploring the unseen with grade 2. In science, we are working to create a better understanding of air and its properties. Air is difficult to perceive with our eyes, but it serves a great purpose in every moment we spend breathing. We discussed that though something is unseen, it does not mean that it is not present, and we see this through the cause and effect of everything around us.
Newton’s 2nd law states that if a force is applied to an object, it will experience an acceleration directly proportional to the force. Students were able to practically study how much force was required to get an object moving and experiment with it. We also had a discussion about how the greater our desire is to reach perfection (the air in the balloon), the more we are able to work towards perfection, and reach it faster.
Students also had fun with paper bullets and straws, and making DIY air conditioners in class, all requiring air!
