Our Grade 8 Kensington Market budgeting and scavenger hunt was a day full of experiential learning! Students began by taking the transit system, figuring out routes, and exploring the multicultural Kensington Market. Each team was given a different budget to plan a dinner meal — they had to bargain, compare prices, and stretch every dollar, realizing how challenging it can be to feed a family on a tight budget.
The scavenger hunt led them through Kensington’s rich history — from early settlers to the inspiring community fridge that supports those in need. By the end of the day, students didn’t just learn about budgeting; they discovered community, culture, and valuable life lessons that will, insha’Allah, stay with them for years to come.
