Our Grade 6 students proudly worked on their Canada Action Project in partnership with Learning for a Sustainable Future (LSF) to help build awareness about environmental sustainability and plastic pollution.
Students began their journey by researching the harmful impacts of plastic waste on our environment and communities. They were shocked to learn that plastic bags are often used for only a few minutes but can take hundreds of years to break down in landfills.
Throughout the project, students connected their learning to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially goals related to responsible consumption, climate action, and sustainable communities.
As part of their action project, students:
✅ Conducted surveys within the school community about plastic bag use and sustainable habits
✅ Created awareness posters and presentations to educate others
✅ Explored the 4Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rethink
✅ Learned sewing and stitching skills to create reusable bags from old T-shirts
✅ Designed environmental awareness logos and slogans using Cricut technology
✅ Created reusable bags to encourage eco-friendly choices and reduce plastic waste
This meaningful hands-on project empowered students to become environmental advocates and showed them that small actions can create a big impact for a more sustainable future. We are so proud of their creativity, leadership, and commitment to protecting our planet for future generations!
