Grade 2 students completed their first research project entitled Creations of Allah (swt) for their English class. Students worked in groups to choose a creation that they were curious about, and were given research questions to answer. Students chose bees, ants, volcanoes and crystals to explore.
Each group wrote 5 research based paragraphs, explaining what their creation is, its function, a possible reason (of many) why Allah (swt) created it, and interesting facts about it. They were also tasked to think of a few questions that they want answered about their creation, and to research about them. Students had questions like: why are bees black and yellow? What is the most valuable crystal and why? How does a queen become a queen ant? What makes a volcano erupt?
This project not only summed up everything we learned in English this year, including writing paragraphs and researching, but allowed them to tap into their curiosity and increase their love for the creations of Allah (swt). Teaching kids to understand the wisdom, the details, the system behind these creations at this age is essential for their love to flourish. They were taught different tools to use when researching, and wrote the information in their own words. They then presented their findings to their classmates and even asked if they can redo this project and research about more of His creations.
