On Wednesday June 14th, our grades 4 to 8 students visited the Aga Khan Museum where we were warmly welcomed by the museum staff educator. We had the privilege of receiving a highly detailed and informative guided tour. The students were provided with a comprehensive history lesson about Rumi, his “Masnavi” writings, his life struggles, and the places he traveled to. We were particularly intrigued by the fables of Rumi and the valuable lessons we can learn from them.
During our visit, we also had the opportunity to explore different kinds of Islamic art. This allowed the students to learn about the rich diversity of Islamic artistic expressions. Additionally, we participated in a captivating pattern play workshop, where we designed our own unique pieces of art using clay modeling. One of the highlights of the trip was a fascinating workshop on the Silk Route. The students engaged in a game that provided them with valuable information about the Silk Route and its significance in history. Understanding the importance of this ancient network of trade and cultural exchange was both enjoyable and educational.
Moreover, we were granted a special opportunity to visit the main museum. There, we had the chance to observe various Qur’anic scripts, including a valuable manuscript by Ibn Sina (Avicenna). The manuscript focused on topics such as anatomy and astrology, showcasing the remarkable scholarly contributions of Ibn Sina.
Overall, the trip was incredibly informative and enjoyable. We appreciate the efforts of the museum staff educator in providing us with such a detailed and captivating guided tour. Our exploration of Rumi, Islamic art, the Silk Route, and the valuable manuscripts and artifacts left a lasting impression on the students. We returned from the trip with a deeper understanding and appreciation of culture, history, and the arts.
